Even HoloLens has a Start Menu

Every Operating System (OS) needs to have an application launcher of some kind. Microsoft Windows has had the Start Menu ever since Windows 95. It’s still there in Windows 10, and the Microsoft HoloLens is no different.¬†Yes, even the Microsoft HoloLens has a Start Menu.

There’s so much focus on Holograms and Microsoft Holographics with the Microsoft HoloLens, the root user interface for launching apps seems to get lost in the mix. So, I decided to record a short video demonstrating how to bring up the HoloLens Start Menu using the “Bloom” gesture, and show what the Holographic Start Menu looks like. Continue reading

HoloLens Remote Desktop Preview UWP App

Remote Desktop has been a feature in Windows for a really long time. It allows for you to remote into and use a Windows computer from another Windows computer remotely as if you were sitting down at that computer directly. This is a feature used by many Developers and IT Pros for various reasons such as installing updates, troubleshooting support issues, or just using a Virtual Machine (VM) that is hosted on a server or even in Microsoft Azure. The Remote Desktop Preview app in the Windows Store bring Remote Desktop capabilities to the Microsoft HoloLens as well as any other Windows 10 device. Continue reading
